More Back to School Tips

Back to school time! What is something important, but not costly, I can do to help my child learn? Read, Read, Read. Sometimes parents feel that once the child learns to read they don’t need to be read to any longer. Think of the 20 to 30 minute evening reading time you spend with your child as an investment in your child’s future. At what age is your child too old to be read to? 35 or so. By sharing books that are perhaps too challenging for your child you are introducing new vocabulary and complex sentence structure. You are helping your child learn to be a strong listener and are modeling fluent reading skills. You are sending a powerful message to your child that you value reading and you are bonding and engaging with your child on an emotional and intellectual level. All that in 20 or 30 minutes.

Happy Reading!
